Seated one day in an orbital shell,
Surveying the atoms around me;
I first had an inkling that all was not well
When my wave function started to change...
It was for me a feeling most strange,
For a photon was coming into range...
I'm an ordinary kind of electron
Carrying an ordinary charge,
But I always put my parachute on
Whenever there's a photon at large.
If you've never had a photon in the bum
It's just about as nasty as they come, so
Please don't hit me with that photon -
The energy gap is more than I can face!
I'm happy with the orbital I live in,
Happy with my share of positive spin.
I never wanted to go trav'lin'
To see the shells where other folks have bin.
But I tell you now, the bit I really hate
Is the quantum leap to the excited state, so
Please don't hit me with that photon
I'm happy the orbital I'm in!
